Exposure
Exposure is the amount of light recorded by the sensor, determined by aperture, shutter angle, sensitivity and the light on the set.
What this is about
Exposure belongs to the DP, and on a professional set it is measured, not guessed. Log footage looks flat and dull on any monitor, so eyeballing the picture is unreliable; the DIT reads a waveform, the operator watches false color, and an incident meter still settles arguments quickly. The working stop stays locked for the look, which means exposure gets moved with ND filters and lamps rather than with the iris.
A term only helps when everyone on set means the same thing by it — so what follows is how it is used, not a dictionary definition.
What runs differently here
In planning terms, that means:
- A flat log image on the monitor says almost nothing about exposure; only a scope or a meter gives a number.
- Shutter angle is usually parked at 180 degrees for natural motion, so it rarely serves as an exposure control.
- The camera report should record stop, ISO, ND and white balance per setup — post reads it later.
- Skin tone placement is the practical reference point; charts and grey cards only calibrate the tools around it.

Can the camera's auto exposure be trusted on a film set?
No. It reacts to anything entering frame, which produces visible brightness pumping mid-take. Narrative work locks exposure and changes the light instead.
How long does it take to get started with TillyGen?

Can the results be exported?
