Production Book

What this is about

In commercial production the book peaks at the PPM, the pre-production meeting: agency and client leaf through casting, wardrobe, locations, boards and schedule, and what they approve there is what gets shot. On longer productions the book keeps growing — crew lists, movement orders, insurance papers — and its real job is continuity of knowledge: when a coordinator falls ill, the next one opens the book and keeps going. A binder nobody maintains is a risk nobody sees.

A term only helps when everyone on set means the same thing by it — so what follows is how it is used, not a dictionary definition.

What runs differently here

In planning terms, that means:

• In advertising it is often called the PPM book and doubles as the record of client approvals.
• Only approved versions belong inside; drafts live somewhere else.
• Digital books need the same discipline as paper ones: one owner, one current version.
