What this is about

Locations fall away for reasons no forecast covers: an owner changes their mind, scaffolding goes up next door, a permit is refused, a burst pipe closes the building. Production therefore keeps the runner-up from scouting informed instead of ending the conversation after the decision. That means a short call, an honest status and, where it matters, a small option fee. When the swap comes, the value is in what was already documented — photos, power, access, permit path — because a plan B nobody prepared is only an address.

A term only helps when everyone on set means the same thing by it — so what follows is how it is used, not a dictionary definition.

What runs differently here

Where this differs from the general case:

• Judge a backup by distance and light direction, not by looks alone: a swap that changes the sun side changes the whole schedule.
• A backup for the same scenes is not a cover set — the cover set is a different scene shot indoors on the same day.
• Re-check the permit path for the alternative early; the second address may sit in a different district with different rules.
