What this is about

In commercial and corporate work, buyouts are how usage actually gets paid for: the client pays once, and in return may use the material in the ways the contract names. The word on its own settles nothing — a buyout is only as wide as the channels, territory and period written next to it, and talent agreements, music licences and stock footage each follow their own logic. Treat the clause as a commercial decision with legal consequences, and have the wording checked by someone qualified before signature rather than after the campaign has started.

A term only helps when everyone on set means the same thing by it — so what follows is how it is used, not a dictionary definition.
