What this is about

Cancellations are normal, and their cost is real: the crew turned down other work, the rental is reserved, the location is blocked. A staged clause makes that visible before it becomes an argument — the closer to the shoot day, the higher the share that stays payable, while third-party costs already committed usually pass through in full. The same logic runs downstream: a production that owes its crew on cancellation needs matching terms toward the client, otherwise it absorbs the gap itself. Have your standard wording reviewed once by a qualified lawyer, then reuse it.

A term only helps when everyone on set means the same thing by it — so what follows is how it is used, not a dictionary definition.
