Weather Day

What this is about

Whoever books one is buying certainty, not weather. The day sits at the end of the block or directly after the exterior, cast and crew are held for it, and it costs money whether the sun shows up or not. The decision to use it is made the evening before, against a forecast and a deadline everyone agreed on, because catering, extras and a rental house all need lead time. On smaller jobs the same logic appears as a contractual postponement clause instead of a paid reserve day.

A term only helps when everyone on set means the same thing by it — so what follows is how it is used, not a dictionary definition.

What runs differently here

In planning terms, that means:

• Weather day, cover set and backup location solve different problems: an extra day, a same-day alternative, and a different place.
• Fix the decision deadline in writing. Without it, the argument happens at six in the morning with everyone already in the van.
• Rain is not the only trigger: wind stops cranes and drones, and heat can close a set faster than a shower does.
