In narrative work a cine zoom earns its weight on technocranes, on tight schedules and in locations where the camera cannot move. The operator reframes between takes in seconds; whether the zoom is also used during the take is a separate creative call. The price is physical: cine zooms are heavy, need solid support, and are one to two stops slower than the primes they replace.
