What this is about

Rental houses hand over expensive hardware against a signature, and from that moment the production carries the risk. Equipment insurance is what stands behind that signature, together with cover for gear the team owns. The decisive questions are unspectacular: does the policy include transport and overnight storage in a vehicle, does it apply abroad, what is the excess per case, and are privately owned freelancer items included or excluded. Rental houses can name what their own contract demands, and asking before pickup costs less than discovering the gap after a lens hits the floor.

A term only helps when everyone on set means the same thing by it — so what follows is how it is used, not a dictionary definition.
