Weather Insurance

Weather insurance pays for moving a shoot day, not for the sunshine that failed to appear.

What this is about

This cover is unusual and only makes sense for a narrow group of productions: outdoor shoots with a large crew, a fixed date and no interior fallback. What it settles is the cost of moving a shoot day — crew, equipment, locations, travel. Insurers work with defined triggers such as measured rainfall at a named place and time window, which makes the wording more technical than in other policies. For most corporate shoots the cheaper answer remains a cover set, an indoor alternative and a weather day built into the schedule.

A term only helps when everyone on set means the same thing by it — so what follows is how it is used, not a dictionary definition.

What runs differently here

In planning terms, that means:

  • It settles the cost of postponing, not the loss of a nicer image
  • Payout depends on measurable triggers that are agreed with the insurer in advance
  • Large outdoor productions can justify it; most corporate shoots are better served by a fallback

With TillyGen

TillyGen shows which scenes genuinely depend on weather, so the fallback plan exists before anyone prices a policy.

Change one constraint and the consequences travel through the whole plan: affected shots are flagged, the call sheet is regenerated, and nobody keeps working from yesterday's version.

Frequently asked

Is weather insurance worth it for a one-day shoot?

Rarely. Premium and trigger definitions only pay off with high daily costs and no alternative. A planned weather day plus an indoor option usually costs less.

How long does it take to get started with TillyGen?

A first project takes under an hour to set up. There is no configuration phase in which templates and fields have to be defined before the tool produces anything.

Can the results be exported?

Yes — as PDF for the crew, CSV for downstream systems and through the API for anything automated. The plan stays the source; the exports are views of it.
