The phrase travels through international briefs and lands in German contracts, where it has no direct equivalent. Under German copyright law authorship cannot be sold; it stays with the director, camera operator or composer, and what changes hands is a licence — exclusive or simple, for named channels, territories and periods. Clients asking for a full buy-out usually want unrestricted use rather than authorship, and that can be written properly. Translate the demand into a rights clause both sides understand, then let a lawyer confirm the wording before signature.
