What this is about

There is no second take of a keynote. Coverage decisions that a scripted shoot makes between takes have to be made here on paper, against a running order written by people who were not thinking about cameras.

Every department needs the same plan in a different view. That is exactly where document collections fail: they only ever serve one perspective well.

What runs differently here

Where this differs from the general case:

• Positions, power and cable routes are agreed while the room is being built, not on the morning
• One camera at a moment where two things happen loses one of them for good
• A same-day edit is a second production with its own workspace, its own person and its own deadline

What the plan has to deliver

A production plan is useful to this role when it provides the following:

• The running order early, and every update of it
• Camera positions, power and cabling cleared with the venue
• A contact who knows when things actually start, not when they are printed
• Interview slots for speakers booked outside the programme

Common pitfalls

What most often goes wrong in practice:

• Treating the printed programme as reliable timing
• Promising a highlight film for the evening without an edit station in the plan
